Place or people specific domain names

All of us are comfortable transacting with familiar persons, places or products. We also have an affinity towards the people of our region and country. Same goes true with domain names too. A website with an extension au is likely to be more appealing to an Australian or with an extension  ca to a Canadian than a general one when they are searching for a product or service in the Internet.

If your website is aimed at people in a specific country, having a country-specific domain can help. You could have a general domain name for international search and specific ones for specific search. Your visitors will right away recognize that your business has a presence in the country of the extension. Therefore they may feel easier and more comfortable buying from you. For example let us say you trade in wedding dresses. You could have a domain name  like wedding dress dot com, or dot net or dot org. Additionally you could also have a country specific extension, like dot uk or dot au or dot ca depending on your capacity to supply goods for the specific region.

One domain is all you need to set up a website. But with more domains directing to your site, you can have the additional benefit of acquiring the traffic that might otherwise go to your competitors. These should direct even the people who type your primary domain name incorrectly, the people who search for your products or services online, those who spell your business differently.

Another worthwhile tip to remember is to have   singular and plural versions of the same name. Extensions with .com and .net as well as a country-specific extension if relevant.

If you already don’t have a business name, you’ll find it easier to market your business online if you choose a primary domain and a business name together. If you can’t get what you are looking for, then get the next best, for what people are looking for! Once you’ve registered that domain name and your business name, register secondary domains and put them to use.

What you don’t register will be available for competitors of the same business to buy and use. If a domain is valuable to a competitor, it sure is it’s valuable to you. So hurry, get your domain name now and get your business going for ever. Good luck!

Every End has a Beginning

The movie world didn’t come to a halt when Marlon Brando or Rock Hudson, Cary Grant & Jimmy Stewart faded away. It continued with Al Pacino & Jack Nicholson. People didn’t stop watching movies when Tom Cruise and Richard Gere took over and they are now as much entertained watching George Clooney. James Bond 007 didn’t vanish with Sean Connery. He continued in Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and now in Daniel Craig. When oil was first dug in 1800s it was neither as much in demand nor as useful as it became once autos hit the road. Imagine how amazed the guys of 1800s would be if they were to be here today!

Changes continue to happen in every field of life. Internet is no exemption. Rather it is one field where changes happen so fast that by the time you finish reading this line there is something new!  From bulky processors we have moved on PDAs. Internet has made purchase to banking possible right in the comfort of your living room chair. And it has not taken very long for this growth. In 1996 just about 5 to 10 % of business was done online. Today we are close to almost 100%.

Web world doesn’t end with dot com. There are unending possibilities. Whatever your business is, whatever the size of your business is, safeguarding your personal identity is crucial today. Same is true for your online identity. You can reach out to the world in a jiffy and world can get in touch with you in matter of seconds. So the need for a website has become an integral part of any business.

Recognise your opportunity to find your calling. Right this minute there are opportunities and plenty of them. Well, many of you may doubt or even mock in disbelief. If birds look for worms after a storm, why not us for better business, embracing the current economic situation to our benefit instead of being trapped in it. From the greatest adversity come the greatest achievements. Approach this down turn the right way and it will become your best days.
Acquire a good domain for your business and have a great future!

Try and Try Again- You Will Win at last!

Money is not everything but you need a lot of it to do many things in life. But then you have to really work for it! Take for example, Dr. Kevin Ham, a 37-year-old Canadian doctor from Vancouver who founded Reinvent Technology, generating well over $1 million a week from various domain-related ventures with a portfolio of approximately 300,000 domain names. He did not become what he is today, overnight. Another classic example is the 38-year-old Frank Schilling of Name Administration, Inc with a portfolio worth well into the nine figures, generating estimated annual revenue around $20 million dollars every year. That’s $1.7M every month. Schilling built his phenomenal domain empire in just five years when everyone else thought the game was already getting over.

Most people take up one line of job, profession or business, and spend the rest of their lives in it. Very few have the courage and capacity to invest their time, money and energy into diversified interests and try their hands in other fields for passion or money. Look at Leonardo Da Vinci who was skilled in both art and science, using both sides of their brain. Whatever job or business you are in, it is well worth investing your time and monies in domain names. It is a never ending field.

Irrespective what is going on at the economic front globally, activities at business front continue. Domain fests, conferences, auctions are continuously happening not quietly but with a lot of noise. The fifth annual Domain Roundtable conference is set to take place in June in Washington DC. This year’s theme is ‘Reaching Beyond: Shaping our Future Together’. Whatever may be the field of business, there is enough and more for every one. Domain name race hasn’t stopped with dot com extensions alone! The registry for Guadeloupe is offering more dot GP names that could be associated with ‘grand prix’. NIC Brasil has announced registrations will be possible for NET.BR. The European Commission is celebrating three years of the dot EU. dot EU racked up over 700,000 registrations within 24 hours of being available to register and by the end of the first week there were 1.5 million registrations. Newer and newer extensions are born keeping up with the demand and interest of society. Imagination is the limit! First grab a suitable name. Then build your domain platform. Then you have the entire world to reach out.

Opportunities don’t find you. You have to actively go seeking them. Achieving success often involves taking risks. Some times your calculations may go wrong, but then you have to continue till you start adding more zeros to your bank balance! The end goal doesn’t have to be money alone as to make you wonder what to do with it when you get there! Set your goal. Run. Reach it. Reap the fruits. Have a feast!

Yes, You Can. Do It!

In today’s economy, it has become very challenging for the consumer choosing the right business place that is quality, time and commitment conscious. And for the entrepreneur it is equally challenging to remain in business. So how does one survive in the explosively hyper competitive business world?

Your success in the marketplace depends a lot on the message you convey and the image you project. You may have an excellent product, but if your visibility in the market place is weak you may not get noticed amongst other business houses with a stronger identity. So the most important thing to do is to make people perceive that you are there and you are the best!

In this superfast Internet period, no one has the time to look around and compare products and prices. They rather would finish the deal quickly based on instant communication, flashing specific benefits and added values for what they are looking for, with a click of the mouse. Your website creates lifetime identity for your business. So it is imperative that you have the right name for your website, convey the right message in the right tone and intensity.

If you take care of the basic three ‘C’s-Continuity, Clarity and Confidence, then you have a great chance to win over your competitors.

Continuity: You have to be consistent in projecting your image in terms of your basic marketing and promotional guidelines. There should be continuity in using your logo, choosing the colours and typefaces and placement of information in the right order of importance. In other words your visual presentation. Also take care to have continuity in your message presentation, making sure the tone is kept up, whether it is traditional, playful or humorous.

Clarity:  Today’s consumers are bombarded with influx of information. So you have to make sure you stand out in the crowd. Don’t whisper or shout. Use the right pitch to say who are, where you are and why are you!

Confidence: That is what you need to create in your clients, about your credibility, reliability, commitment and service back-up. Promise only what you will deliver and keep up what you say. And see your client list building up.

Choose the right domain name. Build a good site. Do a great business. Good Luck!

Let ‘.yu’ , ‘.me’ and ‘.us’ Rule the World

Nobody dies, not being able to have access to five star meals. A burger or a sandwich still makes living possible.  When people can’t get what they want, they always grab the next best available and affordable option. There was a time when the domain world thought it began and ended at dot com, single letter, and one word TLDs. But it continued to expand to two, three and many lettered and word domain names. Today, anyone with a laptop, iPhone or a Blackberry can go online in a jiffy and the expansion and growth in the domain name extensions are also unlimited.

The registry’s executive director Predrag Lesic in a statement said, “The appeal for dot ME domain names is truly global. The best part is there are still so many great names available, in every language.” DoMEn reports that the ‘.ME’ domain extension has become popular in the US for both personal and business uses. It is not only popular in the U.S. but also in other countries because it is available and being actively registered in more than 181 countries including Canada, India, Australia, Israel, Spain, the Netherlands and its originating country, Montenegro. Currently, more than 100 registrars offer ‘.ME’ TLDs. So‘.ME’ web names have great potential for Internet users across the globe because it’s all about YOU, making it possible for you to establish a personalized and unique space on the web that is unlike any other.

Christian Zouzas, one of the largest ‘.US’ domain holders says “Many organizations, especially those based overseas, are strengthening their identity in American markets with a ‘.US’ domain name.

There is no end to your imagination. All you need to do is think and ask. And thou shall be given help.

Have a great day

Buy a Domain Name and Kick-start Your Business

Some sites on the web are visited more than others which offer the same service. What could be one of the main reasons? When a client takes the help of a search engine to search for the best place for what he is looking for, he uses the appropriate search word. For example when someone is looking for a place to buy a computer he uses the word computer, laptop, PC and the like, for his search. And he is presented with a million results. So it makes sense to match the domain name to your business to make you more visible on the web. It can be a generic (e.g. ‘computers.com’) or brand name (e.g.  ‘apple.com’) Brand names may rank a little lower than generic names because the search words are mostly general like ‘computer’ than specific, like ‘dell’ ,  unless the search itself is specific.

You are allowed to use as many as 67 characters to coin a name for your domain. But a short name is easy on the mind for remembering and on the fingers for typing. Possibilities of typing errors are minimal on short names. Talking of typing, it is best to keep away from complicated spellings.

It is good to avoid using hyphens because it is confusing when pronounced orally and chances of missing the hyphen while typing is high.

Mixing numbers with letters is again not a great idea unless it is part of your service, like ‘101computermodels.com’ which actually reflects the choice of products.

‘.com’ TLDs (top level domains) are in highest in demand for a domain name. ‘.net’ or ‘.org’ are the next best choices when you are keen on a name whose ‘.com’ version is not available.

Another alternative to a ‘.com’ name you badly want but which is not available is to try adding prefixes or suffixes to the word.

Be sure that the domain name you want to register does not violate any copyrights or trademarks to create any legal issues or disputes.

Consider registering multiple TLDs to avoid loosing traffic due to type squatters. The same name with ‘.com’, ‘.net’, ‘.org’ etc can point to the same website.

Have a word with your friends, colleagues and clients to know their feedback and impressions. For example ‘experts exchange’ may be read as ‘expert sexchange’!

It is a good idea to avoid domain names with a past history of abuse by spammers or type squatters. It is possible that popular search engines might have penalized them by lowering the page rank (a number which indicates how good a website is in the eyes of Google).

When selecting a domain name have a good plan of action in mind for expansion of your website as your business expands. Suppose you are selling Dell computers and call your domain ‘DellOnly.com.’ It may be a great name, but later when you want to expand selling other brands it is less applicable. In this example you might be better off with a domain name like ‘ComputersOnly.com’.

If your website users are from a specific region or country, then you should consider country TLDs which are location and user based, like ‘.ca’, ‘.au’ etc. Country specific TLDs can rank well when searches are performed within that country.

At all costs try to avoid confusing domain names. Do not pick the wrong spelling (unless you already have established brand name with that spelling).”CoolKits.com” is a better choice than KoolKits .com.

Numbers mixed with letters for fancy spellings like, 4 instead of “for” or 2 instead of “to”, can confuse people. Names that are spelt differently but pronounced the same can also cause some difficulty, like “spear” and “sphere”, “face” and “phase”.

In many instances the plural form of a domain name is more valuable and preferred over the singular form. For example “Coolcomputers.com” is a more desirable name than “Coolcomputer.com”. To ensure you do not loose any traffic to type squatters, register and secure both the singular and plural version of a domain name if they are available.

Your domain name is as unique and important an identity to your domain as your name is to you. Be creative in choosing a domain name. Choose a domain name that can stand out, conveys a positive message and reflects the nature of your website. Choose a name that motivates you. Be sure about what you want so that you do not have second thoughts and want to change it in the future.

What you would ideally want may already have been registered. It is OK to compromise a little. Settle for a domain name that fulfills as many of your criteria as possible.

Good luck with your domain name search!

Have a great day .

The resources that the World Wide Web provides seem to be limitless for creative minds, young and old. Gone are the times where one could connect to the web world only through expensive, bulky processors, machines, computer monitors and net connections. The web world is now available to be carried in the back of your trousers or in your palm.  If you don’t have a machine walking with you, today you can just walk into a coffee shop and connect to the web world while sipping your cuppa for maybe half the price of the coffee. Every age in the history of mankind has seen economic problems in different shades but mankind continues to survive and flourish.  Whether it is a question of resurrecting timeless problems or realizing the new challenges and available opportunities, all of us have to think about where to take shelter in the passing economic storm.

This is Buying Time

Every one is talking about the economic crisis. Whatever may be the scene on global economy, from plumber to paper boy to pastor, every one has something to sell. People sell only because there is someone wanting to buy. And someone buys because there is a need for whatever it is. Despite the economic slump many of us are still on the move and getting the Internet on the go.

Current scenarios offer opportunities for the worldwide industry investors, the domainers, that shouldn’t be overlooked. A recent auction report says more than 20 million dollars of cash – money was bid in about a day (8 hours over two days) by a handful of people who wanted to own just a smattering of domain names.  Some of these names were good and many were just average. All this happened during a week when markets were correcting, new credit/banking problems came to light, mortgage rates inched higher, inflation made headlines and generally bad stuff was foreshadowed to happen in the broader economy. And imagine – all this for something not even physical but the ‘virtual real estate’. Internet is targeting its audience in all possible fields while many real ‘brick and motor’ stores are rolling up shutters. There is still money, a lot of it like a lazy python in the under-bush, picky and choosy about what to target at!

A year or two ago, buying a few domains was difficult because the owners’ asking prices were too high for your liking. Or, maybe you wanted to start up a simple website and couldn’t raise the needed capital for the domain you wanted. Whatever the case may be, these hard times have changed many people’s valuations and priorities. Today, right now, domain sellers are far more approachable. Just a while ago, you couldn’t even think about buying any three character .com for less than several thousand dollars. Now you may be able to pick one up for a couple of hundreds. It’s easier for buyers to flex a little negotiation muscle in today’s situation. Potential names suited to the need of the hour, like obamastaxpolicy.com, obamapolicies.mobi, dot us, dot biz, jobhunts.org, jobhunt.us, jobhunts.mobi, jobhunts.info, and the like are available.

Spiritual Domaining – Perseverance Pays

It could be buying or selling, it could be stocks, real estate or domains, the biggest mistake one should avoid is to take decisions based on greed or fear.

There are high end stores in any market and they survive because there are enough upscale buyers . There are thrift stores and flea markets with their own clientele too. There is always a demand for both types. Sometimes you pick up great stuff on a second hand sale, an antique piece may be. This is true to any market. More so in the net market. The primary requirement for e-business is acquiring an address in the web world. It may not be possible always to find a valuable or generic name in the primary market. There is a secondary market, small sellers who may have valuable names.

Sedo’s domain market study 2008 shows that of the sale in the year 76% are dot com, 9% dot net,7% dot info. 5% dot org and 3% dot biz names .While 45% was sold on offers & counter offers, 40% in market place,5% as external transfers,5% by brokers 3% at special ‘themed’ auctions and 2% as fixed price domains. There are plenty of dot com, good dot com names still available. As time goes by Internet users and net business is rapidly growing posing a great need for more and more domain names.

As we see and hear stories of many losing millions turning into paupers, we also hear of ’slum dog millionaires’ hitting head lines. Recession is as much a part of any social structure as is growth. After all mankind has survived for many many centuries. This is the time to sow. Sure, a good harvest is assured in times to come. Domains will go up in value faster than any other commodity ever known to man.

Spiritual Domaining – ‘Minding’ our Business!

Whether it is an individual, institute or corporate business, any work has to be considered as a two way street. First as a platform for evolving spiritually and then as a base for improving one’s ability to contribute to the society. It could be an individual work, or household work, or a job for earning a living. Our attempt has to be towards establishing a connection with society. Today we are so carried away by the allure of the material world that we have lost the ability to find the purpose of life. From individual business to corporate institutions, efforts to find the principles in not in the center but only in the periphery. Only a small percentage keep in mind the values of honesty, integrity, accountability, quality, service, trustworthiness, respect, justice, and service. For many these values have become secondary while profit is the primary concern.

Take domain business for instance. When it comes to domain selling, since  ranking matters very much, we see a lot of ‘not so straight’ practices going on to pull traffic and gain ranking. A few bucks by way of subscribing to certain sites does the job! It is very important at all levels to decide how one relates with society comprising of sellers and buyers, givers and takers , to promote the inner happiness and fulfillment of everyone involved, and to sincerely make a positive contribution.
